A British mother of two lost half her thigh and endured 55 surgeries after a small cut from a fishing line became infected.

Now she is pleading with doctors to completely remove her right leg.

"I'm tired of spending my life in the hospital," Michelle Milton, 40, lamented to SWNS.

Her ordeal began during a fishing trip with her brother Martin in 2019. On the first day of her excursion, she slipped on a rock and some of the nylon wire in her front pocket got stuck in her right thigh.

Milton went to Basildon University Hospital in Essex four days later because his leg was swollen and he had a fever.
Doctors fought to stop the infection, but antibiotics were no longer working and they had to cut into her thigh. Ta. After 55 procedures, including skin grafts, wound cleansing and tissue removal, Milton says she has a large hole on the inside of her leg that is highly resistant to antibiotics. Ms Milton, who lives in Essex, said she "didn't think fishing lines could cause so "much damage". "Every day was filled with pain and I begged them to take (my leg) off. They just keep cutting it off. She said that during her first visit to the emergency room in August 2019, doctors She was given antibiotics She says she was also given antibiotics and
sent home.

"They had no idea what was going on," Milton said of the care team. "The pain increased and the infection continued to spread throughout my leg. They just discharged me and prescribed antibiotics."

Doctors then performed a washout, a procedure to clean the open wound, in December 2019.

Milton said the move created a huge injury gap.
Over the next four years, she underwent four skin grafts, 30 irrigations, and 21 debris to remove damaged tissue.

“I can barely walk or sit,” she groaned. “I won't have anything left.”

In October, Basildon surgeons carried out a flush and attached a pump to the wound to suck out pus.

Doctors say the infection has spread to Milton's right leg, which has kept her in and out of the hospital.

"I don't know how much longer I can hold out," said Milton, a mother of a 17-year-old daughter and a 20-year-old son. "I haven't been [a mother] in years. My mother does everything for her children."

Milton is in the hospital waiting to see if he has a blood clot in his right leg.

She proposes amputating her leg in order to move on with her life.

"Nothing seems to be working. None of the treatments are helping at all," she said. "I can't believe a little scratch turned into this."
